Evolutionary and biogeographical support for species-specific proteins in lizard chemical signals

چکیده

Abstract The species-specific components of animal signals can facilitate species recognition and reduce the risks mismatching interbreeding. Nonetheless, empirical evidence for in chemical is scarce mostly limited to insect pheromones. Based on proteinaceous femoral gland secretions 36 lizard (Lacertidae), we examine component potential proteins signals. By quantitative comparison one-dimensional electrophoretic patterns protein fraction from secretions, first reveal that composition specific, accounting a large part observed raw variation allowing us discriminate this basis. Secondly, find increased pattern divergence sympatric, closely related species. Thirdly, profiles show low phylogenetic signal, recent steep increase relative disparity high rate evolutionary change compared with non-specifically signal traits (i.e. body size shape). Together, these findings provide support specificity vertebrate lineage.

Heterogeneous tempo and mode of evolutionary diversification of compounds in lizard chemical signals

Important part of the multivariate selection shaping social and interspecific interactions among and within animal species emerges from communication. Therefore, understanding the diversification of signals for animal communication is a central endeavor in evolutionary biology. Over the last decade, the rapid development of phylogenetic approaches has promoted a stream of studies investigating ...

Interpopulational and seasonal variation in the chemical signals of the lizard Gallotia galloti

Communicative traits are strikingly diverse and may vary among populations of the same species. Within a population, these traits may also display seasonal variation. Chemical signals play a key role in the communication of many taxa. However, we still know far too little about chemical communication in some vertebrate groups. In lizards, only a few studies have examined interpopulational varia...

passivity in waiting for godot and endgame: a psychoanalytic reading

this study intends to investigate samuel beckett’s waiting for godot and endgame under the lacanian psychoanalysis. it begins by explaining the most important concepts of lacanian psychoanalysis. the beckettian characters are studied regarding their state of unconscious, and not the state of consciousness as is common in most beckett studies. according to lacan, language plays the sole role in ...

Fractionation and identification of the allergic proteins in Aspergillus species

Background and Purpose: Allergy is an undesired immune response to non-pathogenic agents. However, some opportunistic microorganisms such as fungi can also cause allergy. Among those fungi, hyphae form of Aspergillus strains including A. fumigatus, A. flavus, and A. niger could be mentioned. In this study, we aimed to separate allergic proteins from Aspergillus strains and determine their ident...

Species-specific beaked whale echolocation signals.

Beaked whale echolocation signals are mostly frequency-modulated (FM) upsweep pulses and appear to be species specific. Evolutionary processes of niche separation may have driven differentiation of beaked whale signals used for spatial orientation and foraging. FM pulses of eight species of beaked whales were identified, as well as five distinct pulse types of unknown species, but presumed to b...
